Excuse me while I start this on an emotional note, our little Penelope is not so little anymore and as a mamma that is both exciting and so sad all at the same time. She has gone through the right of passage into Toddlerhood, I’m not sure it’s an actual hood, but we will work with it for the sake of my emotions. Her golden locks were chopped off for the first time & the experience was such a neat & magical one.
We made reservations at Harmony Barbershop in the Magic Kingdom; we opted for the “my first hair cut” package that comes with the following- a set of youth size Mickey ears embroidered with my first haircut, a certificate with the date & her stylist’s name & a little bag filled with pixie dust and a piece of her locks that were cut off. This package comes at a price tag of $25, and honestly, it is so worth it, you get the little trinkets, and it’s an excellent experience for the kiddos to learn to enjoy haircuts & also it’s in Disney!
Our stylist was great with trying to show Penelope what she was doing and also providing forms of entertainment for when Penelope was over sitting in a chair (she is one and a half sitting for long periods isn’t her thing) she knew exactly what to do in all cases, it’s clear they know how to work with kids there.
You don’t have to be a first-time hair cutter to visit Harmony’s barbershop they cut children, teenager, and adult hair, prices vary depending on need, but they are there to assist with your basic hair cut needs, and you walk out covered in Mickey glitter, so I’m entirely sold on the idea. Another idea I was sold on from the start was the option to capture this particular day, some may say it’s a little too much for a haircut, and you are 100% entitled to your opinion, but as a mom, symbolically, I saw my baby turn into a toddler as her locks slowly descended to the floor. I wanted to be there for her in the case she was frightened, I also wanted to record the entire event and photograph it, so to allow myself to live in that moment we decided to give Shannon a call & let her do what she does best, she captures the magic as it unfolds. I was able to live that very moment and afterward have pictures that bring tears to my eyes. I know I’m such a parent, and maybe one day you will be too & you may then see the emotion behind this. It was a truly beautiful day and experience going down in our family memory as a core day, this ones for our inside out fans I hope you get it.
If you plan on visiting Disney and can experience this with your kiddos or maybe you want a pixie dusted hair cut, we can’t recommend this enough. After you have a fresh hair cut you get to go play in Magic Kingdom and seldom beats that.
