At Home Whitening kit: Tried & Tested 🦷

The day we became a party of three, our entire lives changed & with it our priorities & to be honest self care, suddenly it was all about Penelope, Jared and I took care of ourselves if there was time left in the day. Let’s head back to a long time ago, 20 years to be exact, I was about four years old & was diagnosed with a tumor that was found in my mouth right above my top front teeth, the diagnosis was immediate surgery. Once I regained consciousness from surgery the diagnosis was positive, they were able to remove it and it wasn’t malignant, but I had lost my front teeth and they hoped my adult teeth wouldn’t be affected, as this was something we wouldn’t find out until later on in my childhood when those teeth began to come in. I had stitches for teeth for a while, and my mother took pictures of me as if I had the worlds greatest smile, that was one thing she passed on to me, photograph everything, the good & the bad, because what you are doing is capturing life in that moment and you now have a photograph to look back on it. She lived by this, & now so do I.

We reached the point where my teeth should have started to come in, but they weren’t. This is where my history with the dentists office began, from X-rays to multiple visits a month trying to figure out where my teeth were & if they would ever come. I found out they were there somewhere hiding, with the help of braces, my dentist promised she would help me get my two front teeth. She kepted her promise, after nearly five years of having braces, many sessions of wire tightening, & teeth pulling I had a complete smile. You bet that year at our annual school pictures I had the biggest smile in the room. This story is one not many people know, it’s one I hold so tightly onto because I truly believe it’s made me who I am and how I am, I’ve shared it with you all because I wanted you to understand why a teeth whitening product changed my life.

From the countless treatments & products used on my two front teeth, after the removal of my braces, I found various stains & some glue build up. At this point I was just happy to have a complete smile the rest was unimportant, but I was wrong. Once my trays arrived it was time to start the whitening process. I began with short 45 minute sessions to see how my sensitivity would be, the gel goes on after the whitening treatment from 15-20 minutes, I always left it in for the full 20.

From my one attempt at using whitening strips I had experienced actual pain from the extreme sensitivity they caused, so I was a bit nervous but I experienced no discomfort after my treatments. It was an odd sensation at first, but once done, I noticed a difference from the very first day! I made this my nightly routine, because it’s a simply process, I was able to place my trays in & go about our bed time routine as if I wasn’t even in the process of whitening my teeth at all. I would bathe Penelope, put her to bed, & before I knew it my timer was going off. As the days went by I was able to go from 45 minutes to 2 hours of treatment, 3 hours being the limit recommended due to the possibility of extreme sensitivity.
