Living life magically

.

A blog about life as a traveling family of five.

Mexico Lindo; Villa Hidalgo, Nayarit

Villa Hidalgo isn’t just another town on our list; this one is a tad bit more special. Here in villa hidalgo Nayarit, you can find the famous “Tacos de salchicha” (hot dog tacos); what you’ll also find is a ton of my family! My father was raised in this little town; his mother, my grandmother, and a few aunts and uncles still call this place home. It’s a small village in the Santiago Nayarit district, but the only thing small is the territory because its heart is larger than life. We spent a week here reminiscing on family memories and creating new ones; my favorite thing about visiting grandma’s house is always looking at the photographs that decorate her walls, telling a story of our family members and keeping some alive that are no longer with us.

Why visit Villa Hidalgo?

Las letras monumentales de Villa Hidalgo se encuentran en el centro de la plaza!

If hot dog tacos aren’t convincing you to plan a trip, maybe some freshly baked pan dulce will; how about some of the best seafood you will ever have? If that’s not cutting it, let’s consider the proximity to many unique locations; san Blas, las islitas, playa platanitos, and we can’t forget la Isla de Mexcaltitán. All located a short drive away, the beautiful part of villa Hidalgo is the fact that staying here will show you the simple way of life of its people, enjoying what they have and never thinking about what they are missing, because when you are in this little town, you are living the way life is meant to be lived. The town is hustling and bustling with work in all agriculture fields, the local Mercado busy feeding during lunch hour, and the bakery is dishing out fresh bread for the afternoon coffee.

Here neighbors are family, where one family eats, the entire block can be fed too, and before you know it, the doors knocking and everyone’s gathering to pick up a plate, tell stories, and be in good company. Late-night cravings turn into adventures into the local communities to find what is considered the best taco stand in the area, all out of someone’s house, where you sit at the same table their family does to enjoy some delicious “tacos de salchicha.” They indeed are out of this world; how simple ingredients come together and create something delicious is hard to explain. Just come on by and enjoy it for yourself!

A short drive towards the coast, you will find yourself dinning off a cliff overlooking the ocean to the west and the mountains looking east, all while enjoying freshly made aguachile (shrimp salad with cucumber and red onion in a green Chile sauce) and some recently caught and shucked oysters.

Villa Hidalgo has a couple of boutique hotels where you could stay, and in Mexico, taxi services take you everywhere, and many tour guides and busses. The people are more than welcoming of tourists they will be the first to thank you for coming and ask you to tell all your friends about their village and come back again soon. They are proud of their home, proud of their food, proud of their lifestyle, a lifestyle very different from others, more calm and connected with their neighbors. Here everyone knows everyone, and when Marcos is cooking up some fresh pig skins, everyone’s pulling up, including us. These are the towns you don’t hear about in must-visit locations while in Mexico, yet these are the towns that will teach you the most about Mexico, its people, and their way of life.
