A Magical Lawn 🌄

The purchase of a new home comes with many responsibilities, and I feel like that’s a known thing, but what if some of those responsibilities can come off your plate? Anyone who has to care for a home would jump on the idea of having less on their plate, which brings me to the reason for this blog post! Like many of you, we found ourselves under quarantine, with a lot of home improvements in mind, building furniture, decorating, and finding the products we feel made our home as efficient as possible while striving to be Eco-friendly. When the opportunity came to partner with our friends from Rachio, we were super excited; their products had been on our radar, we were struggling in the lawn department. We wanted to have a green and luscious lawn; we researched the best watering schedule for our type of grass (St. Augustine grass), possible treatments, you name it we looked into it because we were watching our lawn fade under the Florida sun. We wanted to find the best route to take care of our lawn without wasting water or using dangerous chemicals.

Our home sits on conservation land, and our backyard features grass and open space for play. At the edges you will find all sorts of greenery and wildlife, Penelope looks out our dining room window every day to see which animals she can spot, we have a couple of constant visitors, a cardinal we have nicknamed coco, a couple of spunky squirrels that jump from tree to tree making Penelope giggle, and so many frogs and probably gators; it is Florida after all. There are several scenarios I presented to you throughout this post thus far; first, we wanted to find the best way to water our lawn; second, we knew we needed to feed it a little something extra to strengthen it against this Florida sun; we had to ensure everything we used was safe for the new members of our family and us; third, we didn’t want to waste water!When we came together with our friends from Rachio, all of our problems were given solutions, Rachio had a solution for each scenario.

We filled out their questionnaire that took in all aspects of our lawn, grass type, measurements, and location for weather purposes. They calculated the exact amount of treatment we needed and the watering system to go with it. Once it arrived, our Rachio system was easy to install; it replaced our old and outdated method of watering. There are plenty of step by step instructions, and you can even have a Rachio expert contact you for assistance. Once it was all set up, we linked our system to the Rachio app, and to our Alexa, we set up a watering schedule recommended by the Rachio app, based on all the information provided by us and even by our local weather station. If there is rain in the forecast on a watering day, the Rachio app measures the amount of water expected to be received by your lawn while it rains, and ensures that it is sufficient for your lawn, if so, it will skip the scheduled watering, to not waste water, which also saves you money!
